Design Methodology & Philosophy

My overall design process consists of utilizing agile and lean methodologies to create design sprints with clear objectives and a defined cadence with my team. We have checks along the way to ensure we are still executing on the agreed upon vision and product strategy.

My UX process is as follows Discover, Define, Design, Delivery, and Test. It is very important to properly discover and agree on the problem we are solving for; conduct qualitative research, include analysis of quantitative data and agree on a solution path. We then use this to inform the architecture and design phases of the process and create lean efficient design sprints through which we execute the vision. We then test our designs to validate we have achieved the desired outcomes and solved for the user.

I work with my team to define design sprints in a specific time-frame of 2 weeks or 4 weeks. These sprints may or may not include every part of the entire design process. The parts of the process included within a specific design sprint is dependent on what the goals and objectives of the sprint are.

For example, in very large projects, UX research and discovery may take place in a sprint in parallel or before a sprint that comprises design thinking, solutioning, architecture or high definition designs are created. Conversely this may take place on the opposite end of the process where a sprint may be dedicated to prototyping or asset delivery to development teams. After a product goes live we combine quantitative and qualitative data to validate our design and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
